Creating Your Own Identity

Society will always find ways to tell you the person that you are. Resist molding yourself into the person that people expect you to be, and embrace the character you truly are. Establish an identity for yourself that not only stays true to who you are, but that also commands the attention of others who you surround yourself with. The people who you have surrounded yourself with throughout your life has helped in shaping the personality that you have become. This is your time to take control of your situation, whatever it may be. Think about the people you spend time with in your life. The amount of time that you spend with people is not what really matters, sometimes it only takes a few minutes of your attention for somebody to leave their mark on you, impact your life negatively or positively and influence your own personal choices. Think about your family, friends, parents, significant other, co-workers, and just about anyone you share a moment with throughout your day. All of those people that you share an interaction with contribute to your own choices and influence your thoughts and opinions.
It is important to be mindful of this so that you can learn how to differentiate between the choices that you make for yourselves, and the choices that you make for others. This is not to say that you should not listen to others, because it is important to learn from others and allow others to inspire you and even possibly help to better yourself. Just remember to pay attention to the person that you truly are and get into the habit of always reminding yourself to stay true to your identity. Create yourself into a powerful character. Think of yourself as an artist and constantly work on yourself like clay; molding yourself into the best person you could possibly be. Working on yourself should be the most pleasurable task in your life.
Think about yourself as an actor or actress in your own life movie. Take control of your appearance and emotions. Just like actors have the ability to externalize their emotions in a way that the audience can understand, you can do that too. Treat the people that you surround yourself with in your life as your audience, and take on the role of the most memorable character. Compel the attention from the rest and stand out above the other players on the stage. While your at it, challenge yourself to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

  1. I like it! Take input from those who surround you, but formulate your own interpretation of the situation and make decisions based on your own set of values and experiences.
